STRATEGIC HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN THE CLINICAL LABORATORY SHRCL

This laboratory management integration module aims to enable the candidates to:

  • develop advanced managerial and entrepreneurial competencies in operating a clinical laboratory with application and use of relevant skills in the areas of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling;
  • demonstrate advanced knowledge and mastery of skills in the discipline of operations management in a clinical laboratory setting to aid the clinicians in efficiently diagnosing and providing appropriate interventions for their patients;
  • acquire and implement high level skills and competencies in the field of financial management in operating a clinical laboratory to help improve the profitability and ensure sustainability in the delivery of healthcare services in the clinical laboratory;
  • demonstrate mastery of competencies in the areas of human resource management and marketing of services in a clinical laboratory setting to elevate the level of services through effective laboratory management;
  • show advanced skills in formulating strategic alternative decisions for the clinical laboratory as they adapt to the changes resulting in organizational change challenges, evolving global demands, and diversified workforce to create and maintain competitive advantage for the clinical laboratory; and
  • demonstrate advanced competencies in spearheading researches related to the practice of medical laboratory science contributing to the ever growing body of knowledge and developing the creative and scientific potential of professionals in this field .

Specific Module Objectives and Program Outcomes:

At the end of this module, the students should be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge and mastery in the evolving strategic role of the human resource management to ensure the competitiveness and sustainability of the clinical laboratory they are working for. Through this course, the students are immersed in manpower planning through workforce forecast and job analysis and design, employee sourcing through recruitment and selection, staffing and maintaining talent inventory, learning and development, employee relations, and performance management. This course is designed to further equip managers with competencies in strategic human resource management through the use of frameworks and enable them to improve their knowledge and abilities for critical analysis to help them develop vital skills in formulating and implementing empirically generated human resource strategies resulting in the creation of sustainable competitive advantage for their firm. This course also aims at prescribing and encouraging students to apply ethical business principles in making not only human resource-related decisions for profit but also include corporate social responsibility as the clinical laboratory’s departmental strategy.
